I posted a parcel to Hong Kong on the 1st December. The cost was €55, normal post.

I was given a tracking number.

Today I decided to check to see if the parcel had arrived in Hong Kong only to be advise that it is still being sorted here in Dublin.

Ten days since I posted it.

Is this a regular occurrence or is it an issue with their tracking service?

Stuck in the Xmas rush?

I've had incoming deliveries where the tracking was never updated because someone along the way forgot to scan something and that broke the chain.

I seldom get post these days. I've noticed also that I get bundled post. Two or three items at a time and then nothing until I get the next two or three items. I often wondered was my post being held over for a few days to make the postman's trip worthwhile.

Our postman delivers the post in an An Post van, hopping to different sections of the road.

I get notifications about parcels being delivered on the next working day (by mail and text), and when I track the item with An Post, the tracker tells me they haven't received my parcel yet!

Currently waiting on such a parcel, posted on 30 Nov. I got an email and text on 6 Dec re delivery. An Post updated the tracker on 9 Dec to say they had received my item and were processing for delivery. Nothing since.

At this time of the year, the tracking system seems to operate like the ghost buses in Dublin!

What is the exact wording the tracking gives?

Usually if it gives "being sorted" that means it has processed that part and is now on the next part of its journey - in the case of international mail it is on the journey to the country of destination.

How it works is, once sorted, it goes into a large green box with parcels and letters for the same country and sent to Dublin airport and air routed to the destination. This can be quick, but Hong Kong most likely goes via London or possibly middle east.

Add in time of year and you can add several days to the normal 8-10 day service.

My guess is it's gone out of Dublin and next information will be from Hong Kong post office.

Sometimes the "parcel finder" tracking sites show more information https://parcelsapp.com/

This is the latest information from An Post about the parcel I posted on the 1st December.

Your item is being sent internationally. We will aim to show tracking information from the receiving post, but would recommend tracking the item further on their site.

Does anyone know the site that An Post is recommending that I contact?
