Ambulance Driver

Hi All,
I was wondering if you would be able to help me. My husband is starting to find his current job very boaring and he would like to look for something new. Since I have know him he has always said that he would like to become and ambulance driver. Is there any web site that I can look at that will be able to give me information on what he has to do?

hi think he wants to be an emt (emergency medical technician) by the sounds of things, not sure what part of the country your in but have a look at to give him an idea.
 
Don't ask how I know-don't work in the industry but there will be national ad next week and all press. Tell him keep an eye out.
 
in dublin most ambulance men are also firemen so you have to go through all the firemen training. after you pass out I take for every 4 weeks one is spent manning an ambulance.

away from the fire brigade there are some dedicated ambulance people attached to hospitals and health boards.
 
Fire brigade and health board ambulance staff do slightly different jobs. Fire brigade ambulances deal with most 999 calls and when necessary the health board ambulances back them up on larger incidents or deal with the 999 calls that the fire brigade cannot handle. Health boards deal with patient transfer as well as the 999 calls. My understanding is that new health board ambulance staff are trained to a higher standard than fire brigade ambulance staff, but fire brigade ambulance staff are fire fighters as well. Health board ambulance staff work a standard 7 day week with varying shifts.

My dad is an ambulance driver and just a word of warning, it's not a pleasant job sometimes. You need to be able to detatch yourself from what you see at work and its not a job everybody can do.
 
He could join one of the voluntary First Aid organisations (St John Ambulance/Order of Malta/Red Cross) to get a feel for what is involved.
