hi!! I have been working in a senior national school for the past 5 years. The junior side of the school and ourselves are to be amalgamated. The secretary in the junior school has been there for 6 years, some of these as a classroom assistant, but has broken her service by taking a year off 2 years ago. We have been told that 1 of us has to go? Who? And can the person who loses their job sign on?

Please help!!

Hi Minota,

The links contained in this previous thread might be of some help with your job situation .

Hope things work out for you in the long run.

I'm open to correction but didn't one of the recent 'partnership' agreements with the Unions mean that the concept of people getting promoted on their length of service was abolished? I think the idea was that it would increase productivity in the civil service :rollin

Therefore, the best person should get the job!

Whatever you do, be careful you don't resign, as then you may have difficulty signing-on.

How long have you been employed? Have they offerred redundancy money? They may be trying to avoid this, by getting one of you to resign.
