I am currently receiving half rate carers allowance as im on invalidity pension but am also caring full time for my elderly mother.
I received my first payment on 26th Jan 2017 and it was backdated to 14th Nov 2016 when I applied. Someone told me that I may not be entitled to the annual support grant which is being paid out on this Thursday. They reckon that I have to be receiving carers allowance for a minimum of 6 months and the Department of Social Protection will only recognise the date which the payment was issued and not back to the date in November to which it was backdated. Is this true? As I automatically have been assuming I'm entitled to the grant.
