I was made redundant 2yrs ago, and for 15 mths i clamied jsb, but since that stoped i have been looking for work and i have proofe of all the jobs i applyed for some replyed back, and i got 2 interviews to which they said they would get back to me,i was assistant manager for a catering company and i have 20yrs exp so not to be big headed but why cant i get a job, some of the jobs i see in catering are the jlc rates and some are nego DOE etc. Well any way my question is ((am i entiteled to anything from the social welfare?)), my husband works, and is claiming some of my tax i am also signing for tax credits. Its really starting to get me down so if anyone can answer my question.

many thanks
Amanda.

It doesn't sound like there is anything you are entitled to at this stage, althouh you would possibly have an underlying entitlement to Illness Benefit, as well as dental/optical benefits.

From your post, I presume that you exhausted your entitlement to benefit. at that time, you would have been invited to apply for Jobseeker's allowance which is means tested. presumably, you did not qualify due to hubby's earnings putting you over the limit. So, presumably (again!) you are still signing for credits to preserve possible future benefit and pension entitlements?

You seem to imply that you only started looking for work after the 15months were up? If so, that is dishonest....there is a clue in the name - JB= "job seekers"

Welfarite, thank you for your reply, yes im still claiming my credits i have arranged to meet someone tomorrow who deals with all entitlements thanks again.

sam h, when i was made redundant i took a mth out and in that time i had applyed for 3 total differnt rolls of jobs,in which i didnt get and social welfare called me in 9 times to make sure i was seeking employment, plus i had to sign on and attened fas office once a mth for the 15 mths so i dont think i was dishonest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You seem to imply that SW did not interact with OP while she was being paid to ensure she was entitled to JB. Not a very constructive post, methinks, why did you bother?

I asked a question based on the info the OP provided which indicated that she only started to look for work after the JSB ran out.

I have re-read her original post

& the subsequent one

...and I would still conclude that she did not seem to be actively seeking work which is what I understand you need to be doing. Maybe the rules are different now, but my reading of the post says that she applied for 3 different jobs, which doesn't seem to be very much over a 2 year period.

I appreciate that jobs are much harder to come by now, but 2 years ago there would have been alot more choice.

Sam H, You are technically correct in what you say based on what Amanda09 posted in her question but!!! maybe just a little unkind do you think? it's no joke being unemployed and she certainly wont get rich on what Social Welfare are paying.

I'm not trying to be unkind, I asked a question in order to clarify the facts.

I do not envy anyone looking for a job in the current market.

Sam,

you didn't initially ask a question - you made a judgement

just want to say thanks for all the replys finally got a job not in catering but something thanks again guys. PS i hate people that judge and there is wayyyy to many of them around lately:(

I'd like to ask the same question - am I entitled to JSB. Hope it's ok to just join this thread....

I recently returned to Ireland after travelling for most of 2008. I therefore left my last job voluntarily. I have being seeking employment since I returned. I am living with the parents too. I have prsi credits accumulated from previous years working.

On the basis of this info, should I expect to be eligible for JSB? Any constructive advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately you have returned to Ireland at a very bad time what with the turndown and the budget changes. However only SW can answer your question and I always use the motto "when in doubt apply"
Or if you are over 25 you may be entitled to JSA instead (if you are not eligible for JSB) without the need for a means test on your parents
