2016 NV200 with 21k miles and the alternator belt has just gone. I heard flapping under the bonnet when driving and on inspection the belt was starting tom strip.

Gone to main dealer and asked for a replacement under warranty (5 year bumper to bumper Nissan warranty) , which they say is doubtful as it is a wear item but highly unusual.

I think it should be replaced under warranty considering the age, mileage and rarity of the fault.

If Nissan refuse would it be possible to challenge their decision?

Nissan say to replace the drive belt if found damaged, apart from that I cannot locate if this is a service item.

It should not fail at that mileage, if you have a full service history then press the dealer, that said the cost would not be big with an independent garage.

Your consumer rights come into play here 2 years 21k miles. Contact Nissan directly if the cheap-skate dealer won't honour the warranty. Ask him to show you where the belt is specifically excluded from the warranty - if it's not specifically excluded from the warranty, it's included.

Carnmore - are you going to get the work done at that Nissan garage, that refused to do the work under warranty initially? Personally, I'd bring the work elsewhere if possible...

Yes - they're a franchised dealer and the protocol is for them to forward the claim for preauthorisation before carrying out the work. They expressed doubt that Nissan would cover it and I was prepared to contest it but they called me this morning to say it had been repaired under warranty.

They didn't supply the vehicle and have been good so far with three warranty issues in as many weeks.
