Alternative treatment for oiled teak garage door

Hi
We have a double teak door on our garage. Since 2008 (when it was installed), we have oiled it twice a year. Once oiled, it looks good but it appears to me that it is weathering quicker between oiling as time goes on. I'm thinking of varnishing this door at this stage to protect it better and reduce maintenance. A couple of questions (1) what prep would I need to do before varnishing? (last oiled Aug 2012) (2) is there anything else I could consider treating it with that would preserve it better than oiling?

Yacht varnish will do the trick, multiple coats should give a good hard-wearing finish. Clean-up and prep will be very important to get a good finish.

Would you recommend any particular prep beyond the norm for a door that has previously been oiled?
