we have quite a big area around our house and avenue to the road, and i was thinking of putting down that rusty red colour of resin (like on cycle paths or some bus lanes). anybody any experience of this, how does the price compare to tarmac, and pros/cons, or any recommendations of any company that does this? tks

I would have thought that you would have to have a solid surface down already before putting down the skid resistant surfacing similiar to the cycle tracks you talk about. Have a look at the following site by RMS and you might get a few ideas. They appear to have a wide range of surfaces to choose from. www.rms.ie

Tar and chip is a cheaper and, IMHO, a much more aesthetically pleasing surface finish. BuilderEd, you're right I'd say about the redtop. Anywhere I've ever seen this we had to put down tar or concrete first.
