Almera or Ford Focus 1.6TDCi estate

Im down to a choice between a 06 petrol Almera with 33k miles or a 06 Ford Focus style estate 1.6TDCi with 89K miles.

Ive had two almeras for years and found them very relaible and a grand drive. I now do about 45 miles a day so the diesel would give me better economy than the almera but the almera has way less miles and I know them well.

Im slightly put off by reports on net the the 1.6TCDi engine had issues with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) and problems with the turbo...although it seems thats the 110bhp model rather than the 90 that im looking at.

Anyone have experieces with the focus estate 1.6TCDi or recommend them?

Well as you have read, there are lots of problems with that 1.6TDCi which is also used in Pug/Citroen and Volvo.

I know of a person who has one and he has had turbo problems too.

All modern diesels are most likely going to require expensive maintenance, which will probably wipe out the diesel savings if you are only doing average mileage.

I have just replaced two diesel cars and decided to go with petrol for an easy life, but I was only spending 1-2k per car so it made sense to play safe.

If you are used to petrol then I'd stick with it and the low mileage.

If you want a change you could go for a petrol Focus

I had a 1.6 petrol Focus C-Max and liked it.
