after sign contracts... closing date?

I recently signed the contract for a house purchase at my solicitors and paid the 10% deposit, however a week later and i still haven't been informed of a closing date, should it have been on teh contract and if so why didn't the solicitor mention it? should i ring the estate agent and see what's happening with the vendor? how long does it normally take from signing contract to closing the sale?

Ideally it should take approx 8 weeks, possibly shorter. However it really depends on the vendor circumstance, how ready the title is, how ready your finance is etc.
I would speak to your solicitor again.
