Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

Is there a calculator anywhere, or a way to see how many points flights cost? I'm wondering if this card is better then the AIB platinum card.
 
They’re terrible value for accommodation imo - same applies to earning them on hotel stays as well as redeeming them. There’s much better value in using an accommodation aggregator like hotels.com through the AerClub e-store to get both Avios and hotels.com reward nights.
 
I signed up for the Aer Lingus Credit Card at the end of last year, but I haven't used any benefit yet. However, we're due to take a family trip to Australia soon and I'm getting a little nervous about whether the Travel Insurance provided is sufficient. While we will travel out together, one of our number will leave a week early to fly from Australia to France for a (further !) holiday with friends. While in Oz, I'll be doing a lot of driving and have taken the full car insurance anyway. Previously for big trips I would usually have taken out specific destination trip insurance, so this is new to me.

I've see the comparison with VHI at the start of this thread, but has anyone used it in anger ? Or even an informed opinion would be welcome too.
 
Used for (minor) medical claim (several hundred dollars) during Australia trip. No hassle, pretty efficient and refunded costs (minus small excess)
 
Might be worth double checking wording on policy, if one of party travelling separately, as think kids need to be travelling with adults for cover
 
I have the BOI Platinum Credit Card which has the same insurance policy and would have no concerns with traveling with just this cover
The last time we compared it with what was available elsewhere albeit a good few years ago, it was as good if not a better travel policy
I've only made one claim when we had to return home for a family emergency and found them great to deal with

As far as I'm aware once you pay for at least 50% of your holiday flights and accommodation all your and your families travel is covered
But as gurubob suggests double check the wording to make sure, if in doubt you can always give them a ring to confirm
 
We have it and had Laya Travel Insurance at the same time, for an overlap period. Had to claim and submitted claims to both, with full disclosure to them. Turns out both policies were dealt with by AIG and claim was paid after a delay in records, caused by the airline.
 
Took out one of these cards 6 months ago. Reasonably quickly qualified for 2 free flights . Tried to book flights . The process is a joke - applied 14 times , each time filling out a long list of detail , only to be told flights not available - despite aer Lingus showing flights are available at the start of process. Complained to BoI and they said Aer Lingus issue . Complained to Aer Lingus they say it’s BoI. Wasted money on fees and time. So do yourselves a favour and don’t bother with this.
 
I've had to submit the request a few times, maybe 3, to get the destination and (close to)day I wanted. You have to be flexible and prepared to travel on a less convenient flight or not the exact day you wanted.
 
Posted this before, Had this card for almost 12 months, can't fault it. Just back from our free flight to Crete. Booked the flight maybe 7 or 8 months in advance. Which included priority boarding in Dublin.
Used the fast pass on this trip also.
Used the lounge access previously, worked well for us.
International travel insurance covered for both of us. (90euro saving?)
Earning Avios points every month.
Looking forward to booking another free flight in a couple of months.
 
Can one change from a normal BOI CC to the Aer Lingus version without getting double charged Stamp Duty? If so do you have to do it at a certain time of year e.g. year end?

The card is still BOI. I changed mid-year and didn't have to pay twice or arrange anything to avoid it.

I have enjoyed free flights (taxes and fees less than €30) to Bilbao and Malta on the dates I applied for. Fast track through secutiry possible wasn't necessary, but was nice to hAVE.
Really enjoyed Lounge Access in Dublin. Waste of time in Cork though.
