Can anybody who is involved iin the roofing industry outline what the term "wasteage" means when laying natural slates.

Also what % of full slates would you expect to be unusable in a crate of (1) Premium Grade (2) Heritage Grade

Any help appreciated

Wastage is the term used for the amount of unusable slates you would expect

It varies for the type and grade of slates

Fibre cement slates have a typical wastage of 2.5%

Prime grade slate would have 5 % wastage, which climes when you have alot of cutting due to a difficult roof design

Standard/Heavy/Heritage also have a 5% wastage which can also clime due to the amount of cutting needed, typically standard grade will have a higher % wastage that Prime grade slates

You should expect about 1% to 2% wastage in the crates

Slates

Thanks for the post

Assuming you dont have to cut any slates for angles or none break/crack should there be any wasteage?

What about slates that are as bent as an S hook?
