I only have Super anti spyware free edition on my laptop as I have'nt much of a clue about these things. At moment a box is coming up to say I have a trojan virus, then when I run the thing some other message comes up saying publishers name is not recognised and I'm afraid to go ahead with it. Please can somebody tell me what exactly I should get on my laptop that covers or prevents these things. Also lately my internet explorer is not closing down I'm wondering is this all connected. As I said when it comes to these things I have'nt a clue whats best. Appreciate your help.

I'm not an expert on this, but my experience is that this 'box' is as a result of you having run some 'free' scan or other adn if you try and run the programme, you will be requested to make a purchase of a program to rid you of the 'discovered virus'. The request to allow the program access is normal on Vista and is not linked to the anti'virus program trying to open. In my view such scare tctics area are a virus in themselves!
If you already have a free anti-virus program such as AVG, then you are adequately protected, in my experience. As I say, I'm no expert though...

Thanks a mil. This is the exact thing thats coming up. Windows defender warning and it says you have downloaded or installed, (cant remember which word) harmful or potentially unwanted software. Then it says W12 32/Renos. KF Severe.

Ash, superantispyware FREE itself is fine by the way - it isn't one of those scammy 'must buy to get rid of threats' programs - just in case you thought the program itself was dodgy. Obviously they will ask if you want to purchase but most do that.

The free editions of Superantispyware and Malawarebytes don't give real time protection - SpywareBlaster free edition does. You could also consider Microsoft security Essentials, which is free, but be aware of potential clashes running more than one AV in real time..
I've been using SpywareBlaster now for nearly 3yrs I guess, never had a problem but on the other hand there is not even a sign of life out of it, I just update it weekly but can't help wondering is it really doing anything for me

I'm also just after reading that a virus can be got off a memory stick. I loaded in a whole lot of photos other night off a memory stick belonging to somebody and I reckon it was since then I had problems. In simple terms what can be done to stop this happening when this memory stick is used on a computer again?
