Hi
I am looking for some advice on renewing family insurance. The current situation is

  • Parents on Laya Simplicity (and renewal quote is €1,231.97 each),
  • 21 year old son who is full time student is on VHI PMI 43 16 (renewal price not in yet),
  • and 16 year old son (who has attended Cappagh in the past for scans for rugby sports injury) is on Laya Control 159 Secure with renewal of €344.05.

Have received very helpful advice in the past so wondered if there are better options on renewal.

Many thanks

arthurave,

There is an alternative option with VHI at the moment worth considering for everyone in the family;
1. VHI Company Plan Plus Level 1.3; price 1128(per adult); price 542( 21 yr old); price 286( child price 16 yr old);
All public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private hospital excess 150 per admission, 50 excess per private day case procedure.
Day to day cover included 50% refund for gp, consultants, 25 refund per physio visit x 7, etc. Max total refund 1000 per person per year.

Also, with VHI at the moment, there is a cash refund (50 per adult) if each person signs up to 'My Vhi' and opts to receive all documents by email/online. There is a further 50 euro refund if the policy holder opts to pay by direct debit or through your salary.

This extra 50 is available to claim even if you already pay this way. So, in your case, there is 200 euro cash refund available to you if you want. The last day to avail of this offer is 1st October 2018, which is also your renewal date.

So, to claim the above 200, set up a 'My Vhi' account for yourself, wife and 21 yr old, tick the box to receive all documents by email, and then give the policyholders bank details (IBAN and BIC) so as to receive the money from VHI. Further details in the following link;

If you do not want to change the 16 yr old from Laya Control 150 Secure, as I know the day to day cover is very suited to his rugby needs, for physio etc - one of the parents will have to stay with Laya as they don't insure children on their own. An alternative plan worth considering is Simply Connect price 1100pa. Similar enough to Simplicity, but private room in a private hospital not fully covered.
