Hey All!

Looking for some advice. Civil Servant caught up in the Decentralisation debacle and seriously thinking of jacking it in! Its a big decision as my salary is good and I have all the benefits that comes with the CS but I have struggled not to become institutionalised and to tell you the truth I am fed up of fighting the system! I have mortgage and all the trappings so decision is not easy.

Have qualifications and would love to do political research but dont even know where to begin! Any suggestions!

Why don't you take a career break for 6 to 12 months before (or if) you jack in the job

How about studying / researching part- time; may put you in a different place in your head ,eases the bureaucratic pressure and leaves the option for moving into research fulltime??

why don't you go on 4/3 day week - that way, you can still cover the mortgage. the days you're off, try to get work with political consultantcy firm or sthg..or if your first 5 years on mortgage are up, rent out the house and take a 5 year career break..

am in same situation in cs as you, and that's how i'm handling it..

let us know what you decide to do!

;)

Brad,

The answer is in your question.

"I would love to do political research" ....

So ... go do your research and find out what jobs there are doing this ...

If you have found something that you love doing ... thats half the battle, the next bit is getting the job that does it full time ...
