Advice needed about very low paid job

a friend of mine works part-time in a small gym, outside of Dublin, loves the work, but at €10 per hour for 15 hours per week, it is less than the dole. He wants to stay at it, but the hours will never increase, and they are spread out over 4 days, meaning he can't get social welfare assistance for 2 days or so a week, even though he only works the 15 hours a week. He is just about surviving financially, he lives with elderly parents. He is limited travel wise as epilepsy prevents him driving, and this is pretty much the only gym job where he lives. It is a difficult situation to be in.

Suggestions/ideas to help this guy welcome.

If he is a qualified gym instructor he should could try get part time work in another gym also or take on some freelance classes elsewhere or set up his own or negotiate with the gym owner for use of the gym to do some personal training or do personal training outside his working hours. Classes are probably his best bet though

I would agree, a lot of my friends nowadays are putting their spare money into personal trainers, its not just for the well off these days, maybe get him to try this/
