Advertising for new startup business

A friend of mine has started up a new business. From an advertising/marketing perspective I was trying to identify if there is any websites forums etc which allow people to post information about new companies without a charge, e.g. the product or the service which the company is offering.

There are plenty of free directories to advertise on. At the moment bendunne.com are offering free advertising.
