An accountant mate of mine has suggested that I look into obtaining an accountancy certificate as, allied with being a solicitor, it could open the door to a number of directorships.

At this point in time I don't want to do say, the ACCA or anything like that but am wondering if anyone knows of any part-time courses out there that would put me in aposition to say i have a detailed understanding of company accounts etc?

I did accountancy in school and for 1st and second year in college (business and legal) so I know i like it and have an aptitude for it....

The Open University 'Certificate in Accountancy' is a great course. I did it a few years ago and it's stood to me.

Lots of work over a fairly intensive year, but all completed via distance learning, so able to fit it in around work hours.

I did some CIMA exams a couple of years ago and just bought the books and studied in my own time, didn't go to any lectures and passed the exams. They give certificates/diplomas after passing each set of exams.
