Acclimatising wooden flooring before laying

Just taken delivery of semi-solid wooden flooring to be layed on top of UFH on first floor of new build. Supplier recommended that we give it a week or two in the house before laying (some seem to say that this doesnt matter). It is currently stacked in boxes and wrapped in cellophane - does it need to be open to the enviroment to get any benefit from standing in the house for a week or two?

Re: Aclimatising wooden flooring before laying

A friend of mine sells wood floors and lays 10 or 12 a week he told me ultimately you want the wood to settle for 6 weeks. It goes something like this:

week 1 - In house no heating on out of packaging
Week 2 - Heating set low
Week 3 - Heating set medium
week 4 - Heating on normal room temp
Week 5/6 - Lay floor

It should lay then perfectly

Don’t forget to moisture check the floor.

( layman’s way thick newspaper bundle with concrete block on top over night, ina couple of areas, if any dampness it will be drawn into paper and will feel damp)

Prior to laying floor have tradesman do a proper dampness check/ test and sign something to the effect he’s happy to lay the floor, if not when it buckles or warps you have some comeback to the effect he was happy to do it

Another usual rule is 1 month to dry for every inch of concrete in floor.

We lived over raw concert floor for several months (sealed with quick coat of PVA to keep down dust and still allows drying before laying solid and semi solid floors)
