mods if you can think of better title please change also if there is a better place to put this please move
one of my relatives passed away a while back ,funds were in credit union (apparently you cant nominate a person to withdraw funds on your behalf anymore in the local credit union )
so family could not access fund to pay for funeral without going through solicitor (slow costly expense )
so i am thinking when my time comes (getting old) i will use a account with atm access
one family member will have the card and other will have the pin number (stop temptation to withdraw early given card and pin to one member )
or i might just include the pin in will (might be issue delay with will ?) so prefer first option
so my question would there be any issue with guards or legal issue (fraud etc) for the family members withdrawing funds from my account after i die to cover funeral etc if i go for first option

They could have a cozy arrangement between them to get access before you die.

Is there online access to your CU account?

Or open a joint account with your executor or a family member and lodge enough to cover your funeral.

You can nominate some one to receive your CU balance after your death. Up to €27k it passes outside the estate & you don't need probate for it to be paid.

You can do this for each CU you are a member of (e.g a work based one & a home one).

Have you discussed this with the credit union?
The banks will pay a funeral bill directly from the account of the deceased. A family member can't take out funds to pay it, but the bank will pay it directly. I was able to do this for my parent. Maybe the credit union can do the same
