Another great result for the Irish rugby team against Australia. The hat trick after beating New Zealand and South Africa.
Rory McIlroy finishing the season as world number 1.
Leona McGuire finishing second this evening.
And last but not least the Irish Soccer team beating Malta .

Accepted. Great year, some magnificent performances. Now if we could just get the FAI to study IRFU and IBA methods...

Exactly. The Malta v Ireland was a very poor game by two very poor teams. But they won at least.

Undoubtedly the FAI could learn many lessons from the professionalism of the controlling bodies of minority sports.
Indeed the World and European governing bodies of FIFA and UEFA are akin to the Mafia albeit with fewer moral scruples.
However despite appalling Governance the beautiful game continues to flourish with record viewing figures for the current World Cup which has been hugely enjoyable to date and you just know that IF Ireland ever qualify again for a major tournament then football fever will once again sweep the country like no other sport.
The IRFU and other Unions must be hugely worried at the class actions being taken here and in the UK and indeed Worldwide relating to head injuries and concussions not only could this involve huge costs for the Rugby bodies involved but the publicity could deter parents from enrolling kids in Rugby teams and any change in the rules necessitated by Court decisions could mean that Rugby would no longer be a full contact sport.
There also seems to be a malaise in English Rugby which has seen Premier sides Wasps and Worcester suspended and about to enter administration.
So it appears that football continues to thrive despite terrible governance and a lack of moral scruples while Rugby despite excellent governance is or will be going through difficult times.

I don’t think Rugby could be accused of excellent governance. They are better than soccer but who isn’t?

Football is at risk from the concussion issue also. If rugby has to go so far as being fully non contact, expect other sports to follow.

Undoubtedly but Rugby is a far more physical sport with both the size of players and collision speeds increasing allied to a seemingly inability to stamp out head high dangerous tackles .
Dementia in football seems to be increasingly linked to heading a ball which in the case of older players was linked to the heavier laced ball which in wet conditions simply doubled in weight.

The old ball was the same weight when dry.
