A fire risk in my hot press

I just recently noticed that a pipe located v close to a wooden shelf in my hot press had charred the wooden shelf in it. I don't know how it didn't go on fire. I've turned off the heat for fear of it happening.

I don't know what action to take next. I live in a housing estate, in a mid terrace house and all the houses in the row will be plumbed the same, so they likelihood is that they all pose the same risk. I intend photographing it but I'm unsure as to who to present the problem to.

It's a fire waiting to happen.

I'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

Could be from a blow trorch used to join the pipes. Is the charring behind a joint in the pipe.

I had the same concern as you until i realised the charring was behind all the pipe joints.

The maximum temperature of the pipe would be 100c (for pure water at 1 bar pressure)
I'd be surprised if this is high enough to burn wood.

A quick google would indicate wood has a flash point of 300 degrees celcius.

If you are still concerned, to be safe- why dont you wrap the pipe in insulation foam. Only a couple of euro in a DIY shop

I had the same worry and it was pointed out that it was probably when the pipes were put in there.. what the other posts said
