A bit windy out...

Is anyone out there still in work?
We are closing at 11.30 as we don't want to put anyone here at risk travelling to or from work.

Some people in Galway were swimming in the sea this morning! Some people are incredibly stupid, selfish and irresponsible.

Our building is being closed as we speak. A bit late IMO but I'm working from home anyways as the schools are closed. Thank GOD for Netflix!!

Building closed at 1130 but this is one of the times when being able to WFH is a curse!
In the old days this would have been a half day :(

The problem in Ireland is that for the phrase "batten down the hatches" to apply, if you have to have hatches to be able to secure things with, and have the cop on to do so! Coming home I could see unsecured skips located right next to parked cars... they will have only the universe and themselves to blame if the car takes a hit.

Lecky back here and the first thing, naturally, to be done was put on the kettle!

Windy here but the worst is over. About 4 hours or so for the main stuff to pass. Just the BBQ and a wheelie bin down so happy with that.

Did a full day at work. We were told not to leave at 12 for our own safety.

Still have electricity so far.

George Lee back in the big time, having predicted the financial holocaust he is now champion of the "climate change is the end of the world" lobby. But really, we had a similar storm 50 years ago. Was that storm a result of climate change?

The tragic deaths all seem to be related to the practice of planting trees close to houses and roads... most of the time they provide shelter from the weather\traffic, but in the worst of times they are the cause of tragedies...

There's no way schools should have been closed for a 2nd day in large parts of the country, especially along the East coast. Totally over the top reaction but have to be seen to be doing something

The decision should have been county by county or per county council.

Today's Irish Times Editorial more or less blames Ophelia on Irish governments past and present failing to meet their carbon emission targets. Global warming may or may not be the cause of these events and Ireland should follow any international accords but, for sure, even if Ireland had been shut down 50 years ago to live a vegetarian life on bronze age technology it would not have made an iota of difference to any climate change.

The ITE is usually well informed. I can only presume the usual team were unable to get in yesterday and a fresh faced youth just outa journo college was given her big chance.
