Son inherits pub from deceased father.Son is working abroad.1.Does he qualify for 90% buisness tax relief exemption on IHT/CAT or will he have to pay the 33% on all.[the pub might have to be sold to pay this tax.]2.What are all the rules about qualifying fot this 90% tax exemption?,e.g.Does the son have to be running the buisness? Can he lease it out?.Can he have foreign citzenship[domicile]?.etc.etc.Many thanks.DK123.

Have a look at http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/cat/leaflets/cat4.html

If you inherit a business you should qualify for the relief BUT you have to continue to use the assets for business purposes.

You should get professional advice specific to your circumstances as there may be a way to structure the business to achieve the required result.
