I don't know if anybody will be able to advise me on this one!

basically I have just realised that my husband will be short of 8 weeks PRSI contributions for 2002. This is due to being unemployed and then starting as a self-employed, but the income from the self-employment period will be below euro 3,174 and this excludes him from paying contributions at class S.

It will cost approx. euro 302 to pay voluntary contributions to make up the shortfall.

The lady in the voluntary contributions section of the Social Welfare dept. said it was very difficult to know if this would make a difference to his state pension (my husband is now 54).

I would hate to get a reduced state pension in a few years' time because of such a small shortfall.

Any advise greatly appreciated.
