Perhaps some one has the answer for the following I get paid on a Thursday for the current week (ie one day in advance). This year for me week 52 ends on Friday the 25th Dec. What happens for the following week? I will be paid on Thursday the 31st but the official pay day is Friday the 1st. Is that week 53 or is it week 1 for 2010?
I hope what I am trying to say is clear, I am not sure how to expresse it clearly....

This is what they say on the welfare website - If you use a calendar you can work out how many weeks in the tax year :
PRSI contribution weeks

A contribution week is each successive period of seven days starting on 1 January each year. Week 1 is the period from 1 to 7 January inclusive, week 2 from 8 to 14 January and so on. For 2009, the contribution week starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday.

To put it simply, Tax (PAYE/PRSI/Income Levy) should be applied for the date you receive the money, when it is earned is irreverent. Therefore you should have a Week 53, however as your 'offical' pay day is Friday than chances are you will not!
