Hi Keen Art,
As already mentioned, as a person taking out health insurance for the first time over 34 years of age, there will be a loading applied onto the
price of any plan. This loading is 2% x 9 years = 18%. (43 - 34 = 9 years).
The following 3 plans are a good starting point, when taking out health insurance for the first time;
1. VHI One Plan 250; price 832 + 18% loading = 832 + 144 = 976pa; all public and private hospitals covered, private hospital excess capped at 250 x 2 max per year for all private admissions. Day case excess 150 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital. Limited day to day cover.
2. Laya Essential Health 300; price 895 + 18% loading = 895 + 144 = 1039pa; all public, private and some hi-tech hospital cover, private hospital
excess capped at 300 x 2 max per year for all admissions. Day case excess 125 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital.
Limited day to day cover.
3. Irish Life Benefit plan; price 899 + 18% loading = 899 + 144 = 1043pa; all public, private and some hi-tech hospital covered, private hospital
excess capped at 200 x 2 max per year for all admissions, day case excess 125 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital.
Limited day to day cover.

Note; if you become 44 years before you take out health insurance, then the loading will be 20%.
Are you based in Dublin or what county are you located in?
Lower priced plans would have a higher excess such as 500 or 600 per admission to a private hospital, while plans with a lower excess such as
150 per admission would cost 1100 or 1200 + 20% loading.
