40K left on mortgage ....worth switching?

You could try KBC. They pay €3k to switchers. Not sure if there is a minimum amount.

AIB pays €1,500 and this would cover your legal costs.

Why not fix with BOI at a better rate? Immediate savings.
If switching, UB, KBC & AIB all pay a fixed amount which is enough to cover your legal fees, and all have better rates. But they also have a minimum mortgage amount. I haven't seen small switches in practice - their T&C's say 40 or 50k, but I've heard some banks won't look at anything less than 75k.

Id be scared they'd hit me with a penalty if i switched to a fixed rate as i hope to pay the mortgage off earlish ...say in the next few years

You didn't say how long you have left on your current mortgage (I guessed 5 years) but I put some figures into AIB's website (they give €2000 to switch).

And as it's their variable rate, you can still overpay.

OK thanks for the replies ....I've requested the lower fixed rate. So i presume after the 3 years or so are up i will just revert back to the std variable rate?
