36, good salary, but don't enjoy my job

But if I was a 36YO living with a partner and owning a house together (maybe with kids in the future) I wouldn’t be thinking of my finances on an individual basis. So that’s the main thing I’d change.

Dr Strangelove made a very valid point earlier, which is even more critical given that from the tone of your posts, kids seem more likely now.

Your first priority is to find a job you like and you have the financial flexibility to take a pay cut.
this won't happen in the morning.

But what is it you don't like?
Your profession?
Your industry?
Your employer?
Your specific role?
Your boss?

you need to sort this out before you have kids. You will feel much less flexible taking a pay cut or switching careers if you are worried about financing kids as well.

What is the story on your home? how much is it worth? Is it suitable if you have children?
