3 PC Quotes Which 1 To Buy & Modifications

Hi

Going to buy a PC which I want them to assemble
The budget is maybe a max of €1,000 at a max

It is for home use and what I use it for is

Internet
Email
Burning (need a CD / DVD r/w)
Printing

I also need enough USB ports to hook up Broadband modem / Printer etc
Also want speakers to listen to sound
Don't need massive amounts of memory enough to store images and Mp3's
Printer - Print out a few photos and CD covers

I have the windows xp pro/Nero applications

Got the below 3 quotes,

However not sure if they are fleecing me in relation to CPU's etc as I know SOD all about them, not that technically minded

Anyone advise which is the best buy and what modifications I should get in relation to Cpu or Memory or anything

Cheers

Marx Computers

This one does not seem to include any display while the others do.

Don't need massive amounts of memory enough to store images and Mp3's

Are you sure that you don't mean storage space (e.g. hard disk, CD/DVD-R[W]) as opposed to memory (RAM) here?

Ryaner,

For what you need a basic PC is fine... realistically all the fancy stuff - fast processers/ graphics cards etc. is for playing games .. okay perhaps video editing too perhpas but basically just playing games - nothing at all wrong with playing games :)

So you don't need anything fancy for web browsing / printing / CD burning

You should firstly compare like with like - Elara is quoting for a monitor - Jaguar & Marx without

The processers they are quoting you for are basically the same - bog standard but grand for what you need.

You are getting a DVD burner from Elara & Marx but only a CD burner from Jaguar (probalby not a big difference her)

Jaguar & Marx are giving you a Modem - Elara not .. if you've got Broadband you probalby don't need this. Elara are giving you a LAN card - while you have a USB broadband modem now you might in the future have one that has a LAN cable.

You are getting more memory and a bigger hard drive off Elara - whatever about more memory (which is cheap and mightn't be a bad idea) having a larger hard drive is probalby a good idea espeically if you use a digital camera - lots of photos quickly eat up disk space - 40gb isn't a lot nowadays

Also probalby best to go for a Flat Screen monitor (TFT/LCD) rather than CRT ... they're a LOT less bulky on the desk .. tend to use less power and are easier on the eyes when using .. they do cost a bit more (but not so much more nowadays)

I'd say

What price would Elara do their system with a 15" TFT monitor (15" TFT is very little less screen size than 17" CRT)

The compare that with the Marx one with a larger Hard Drive,DVD burener, similar monitor and perhaps a little more memory

Base your choice on that then

No doubt there's others who will disagree.

Ryaner,

I don't think any of the above suppliers will screw you they all have a decent reputation .. there is a variation in the price of compontents depending on what you need .. you just have to decide exactly what you need and then price accordingly

If you say I wan 2.4 celeron, 160gb Hard drive, 15" TFT monitor etc. (as much detail as possible) and ring them all up and get quoutes on these detailed specs then you'll be comparing like with like

if you ring them all up and say I want a computer you won't be comparing like with like as they'll all quote you for different things

Decide what you want - on the basis of what's been advised here or elsewhere .. then ask them for a quote for that exact (or close ot exact) system.

e.g with that Komplett system you got here - there's a 19" monitor in there -that's costing you extra - did you ask them for such a monitor - it's different to the quotes you got elsewhere.

This is basically the only way to do it if you want to compare prices etc.
