2005 ford focus gears

wife has a 2005 ford focus. driving fine yesterday. all of a sudden she could not engage 3rd,4th,5th or reverse. first and second is fine. AA man could not sort it. have to get it to a ford garage tomorrow. anyone and idea to the problem and how much it is likely to cost. car was registerd in march 2005 so the 24 month warrenty is up. hate when this happens.

I would expect Ford to cover this cost.

can only be two things lift up the gator at the bottom of the gear lever and check to see has one of the cables come off the ball joint,or if you go out to the gearbox the is a black plastic cover on the bumper side of the gearbox ,pull the plstic cover off and you will see the ends of the gear cables make sure they havent came off the ball ends,this is a common problem with them and just takes ten mins to fix

same thing happened to me with an 04 seat ibiza about a year into ownership ( i was 1st owner) was still in warrenty and took to the garage and fixed for free in no time at all. not at all mechanical but apparently some cable had slipped off, probably as ford jedi describes. cant see the cost being too much, if they charge at all!
