11% of the adult population! Embarrassed!

I'd actually love to go, and see where all the Farmers Dole (now called the Farm Assist Scheme) is spent.
Seriously though, is the Ploughing ever held in Munster any more? It must be 20 years since it was held outside Leinster.
Anne May Mchugh and her family who runs the ploughing lives near Carlow so it makes sense for her to have it "close to home".

Really good day out and if you ever want to see how to organise a massive event, it's the place to go.

This 'biggest event in Europe' guff,, is that based on the acreage it's spread over ? cringe-worthy and Marty Morriseyesque ..though nowhere near the 6 billions or whatever watched Lizzie in the box

Is watching a wooden box being carried about the place an "event"?

No one uses TV viewership as the measure of the scale of an event. In most cases attendance is the norm, and there were some 115,500 people at the ploughing yesterday, with more than 300,000 expected over the event. What other event is coming close to that this year?

Sure there must be festivals on the continent that dwarf that, Octoberfest to start , in various venues or is it the biggest plough associated festival with attendant tents etc,
