1000 MPG...Surely not

I thought I heard an advert on the radio last week while driving to Dublin about at new Toyota corolla D4D Diesel which will do almost 1000MPG.Is this true or was it a spoof advert for something completely different like shoes!

I believe it was 1000 Kilometres per full tank

There is an electric car made in Switzerland that uses about this amount-converted and compared into kilo Watt hours.
