04 Corsa Timing Chain

I have an 04 Corsa 1.0 34,000 miles with timing chain (definately chain!) and clutch problems. Local mechanics quote for both jobs was approx €1200 but he advised me to trade it in instead, saying it wasn't worth spending that type of money on it. Linkage went in the gears last year but was repaired under Opel Warranty (I didn't buy from Opel dealer). It has also been recalled twice for other issues which were sorted out. The handbrake has to be re-applied when parked on a slight slant, the horn doesn't work and the right rear indicator is tempremental. Car will be due for it's first NCT this year but there are too many problems for me to get it perfect. Worst thing is I still owe about €2,000 on it (HP will be finished in Oct this year) Should I pay off the loan, trade it in and cut my losses or is it worth repairing?

could you buy an engine second hand,, might have a better clutch than yours,, price an engine and aske for price for installation,,

might be less than 1200,,

it will cost more to trade in i think

I just had the clutch and timing belt replaced on a 00 Clio for 500 euros through a private mechanic so I would shop around.

timing chains and belts are very different, a problem with a chain suggets a bigger problem with the engine and generally not worth fixing cheaper to buy a replacement engine

Changing the engine that's a big job isn't it? I wouldn't know where to start looking to get prices, considering that when car was in for last recall they wanted €90 for an hours labour just to listen to it. Anyone know anywhere they don't charge you for an estimate? The northside would suit. Would changing the engine have any effect on the paperwork or the resale?
