Hi all

Just bought an 03 C180 Kompressor. But the aircon doesnt seem to be working (surprisingly I needed it today!)

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I'd say if its not a fuse problem, you should bring it in to a garage, or better still back to where you bought it.

Depending on what part of the country you live, there are numerous workshops that specialise in maintaining and repairing Mercs. If you post what part of the country othrs might be able to assist.

It probably need regassing which might work providing there are no leaks... You don't need to go to Mercedes. Most garages can do this for you or will know someone with the necessary equipment.

You're probably better off avoiding the garages. They will just bring in an air-con specialist, and charge you their margin on top. Don't know anyone in Cork, but this guy is very helpful, and might be able to give you a local contact. http://www.carairconditioning.ie/

so I got it regassed - now looks like there is a bigger problem of either the compressor or the flaps!!!

Mark Murphy Motors in Douglas is a good independent Merc mechanic.
Make sure you look after that engine btw. They are very delicate, and merc parts are eye wateringly expensive. I learned this from experience.

charged €80 to get that done but that was not the problem. Seems there are other issues! so i need to bring it somewhere else now

I'd live without it tbh. You could see lot of money spent and still end up with no aircon after a few months.

Plus without the air con you're saving money on fuel as the air con makes the car drink juice.

I think there may be more wrong anyway now! Its idling at about 1500 rpm - way too high

Get the inlet breather pipes looked at. The are known to perish and crack causing rough idling.

Hi Ned, If you are getting the car looked at I'd also recommend that you get the timing chain looked at. Its a like bicycle chain on this engine and they are are known to stretch which can cause a whole heap of trouble. Sorry to sound alarmist but I've spent over 3 grand on a 05 c180 with 80k miles on the clock in the last few months. I'm skint from the bloody thing.
