I recently missed a monthly car insurance payment by direct debit. I called the insurance company who informed me that they would recall for the DD again.

They called for the payment a second time but also collected a €15 penalty as a late payment fee.

I thought a bit expensive but my protests went on deaf ears.

I know the bank has a right to charge me a for the direct debit missed but are the insurance company in the right to collect their penalty on top of my monthly repayment?

Presumably its in the T&Cs.I don't see why you personally shouldn't cover the administration bill .

I'd imagine it cost the insurance company more than €15 in the time spent on this in terms of staff costs, etc.. So hard to argue with it, and as vandriver says, it's almost certainly covered in their small print.

After replying to this ,I checked my own insurance policy.€20 for a missed direct debit!
