IT opinion: "lack of housing supply is not the problem"

The vacancy rate comes from the census, and is overstated. Some people, just don't want to complete the census form and so don't answer the door. Some census enumerators will then, after a few attempts, register the property as vacant.

Ireland 2nd out of 19 countries for nurses per capita

Report on Channel 4 tonight about a study in UK that shows UK in 15th place out of 19 western countries for nurses per capita. I was amazed to see that Ireland was 2nd.

My IT article: The state should be building new houses not buying existing ones

Your point is totally right. However, with all the attention on evictions, security of tenure etc the government has to be seen to deal with it now rather than the years and years it would take for the state to build the social housing. The quickest way is for the state to fund LA's to purchase...

IT: Ireland's housing crisis - facts and figures

Now that I consider it, the 11,754 figure for people in emergency accommodation, couldn't possibly include those in direct provision or those Ukrainians being accommodated by the government in hubs, because those two groups would far outnumber the emergency accommodation total.

IT: Ireland's housing crisis - facts and figures

Couple of stats that surprise me are that of the 1,609 families in emergency accommodation, 55% are single parent families. That seems high. Also, of the 11,754 people in emergency accommodation, 39% are non-Irish. That seems very high. Does it include people in direct provision and does it...

Is written contract required for renting-a-room in PPR?

Thanks to all for the good advice. @ClubMan thanks for the links. The Citizens Information recommendation for written ground rules is one that I'll definitely put into a written agreement. My main motive is to help with the housing situation in Dublin. The catalyst was the Ukrainian refugees but...

Is written contract required for renting-a-room in PPR?

I have decided to rent the spare room in my Dublin two-bed townhouse. Money is not main motive, so I have verbally agreed rent about 50% of market rate. Person due to move in soon but has messaged me asking to discuss Contract. I don't want to complicate things by getting solicitor involved...

Fully paid by credit card last Monday. Could I cancel order ?

Thanks for your replies and I agree with you all. I'll head out now and order the Ottoman base but I'll ask them to cancel the original transaction for the mattress and then ask them to do a new transaction for the mattress and ottoman together except this time I'll only pay the 20% deposit...

Fully paid by credit card last Monday. Could I cancel order ?

I kind of agree with you but I stressed to the sales assistant at the very beginning, before I started looking at product, that I wanted assurance that the sign outside the shop saying that the mattress offer ended that day, meant what it said. I'm just irritated and feel naive and a bit stupid...

Fully paid by credit card last Monday. Could I cancel order ?

Thanks @ClubMan . There's no product return involved as mattress delivery is 8 weeks away. I think the fact that I paid the full amount instead of the 20% deposit shows my bona fides and I'm not "messer. If they offered to assemble the Ottoman bed base free instead of charging €120 then I'd...

Fully paid by credit card last Monday. Could I cancel order ?

Walking past large retailer last Monday and saw sign for significant discounts on mattresses on sign outside the shop. Sign said the offer ended Monday. Spoke to sales assistant and asked if the offer definitely ended that day. Was assured it did. Purchased a mattress €1,500 and paid for it...

Canopy to protect shed door from rain.

Elderly neighbour asked me about this. Rain is getting into his shed through the top of the shed door. Rather than replace the door he wants to install a small canopy above the door to protect the door from rain. Any suggestions?

Recommend interior door blinds suppliers - Dublin area.

@Up Rovers , thanks for that. I notice that @Leo also recommended Curtain Services. Looking at their website though, it appears that their focused more on the commercial sector.

Recommend interior door blinds suppliers - Dublin area.

@Delboy @DeclanDublin @garbanzo @TomOC @Gordon Gekko @lledlledlled I am looking at getting roller blinds for bedroom windows and for French doors with side windows in a sunroom. I'm not looking for blackout blinds as I just want to take the brightness down a bit when the sun is shining in as my...

    Applying for planning retention

Any further information requests (or permissions granted with conditions) that I've seen have been regarding compliance with certain guidelines in the Dublin City Development Plan and not with building regulations.

Enlarge a gable end window as part of extension/renovation

If Leo is correct then why not apply for planning just for the gable window. You might receive the permission by the time the builders get to install it. I've been looking at recent planning decisions and there's one that received permission for a very small gable window that is directly...

    Applying for planning retention

Leo, if you contact the Council and ask them if they if they consider the building regulations when reaching a decision, I think you'll be told that responsibility for compliance is with the applicant. The system is one of self-certification. Drawings submitted with a planning application are...
