    Millmount Area Windy Arbour

Just wondering if anyone could give me some information on this area, as there are a couple of houses for sale there that I'd be interested in. Thanks

    No Broadchurch on UTVIreland

I went on to UPC's website to try and register my complaint. You are only allowed contact them re billing, sales, or moving home queries. Shocking service. Will be moving to Sky who still allow access to the original UTV. UPC are obviously not even willing to listen to any complaints on the...

    No Broadchurch on UTVIreland

One of the biggest UTV hits of recent years, and it's not being shown on the much heralded UTV Ireland??? Now have to wait an extra hour to watch it on TV3. What exactly is the benefit of this 'new' channel?

Well done to the cabin crew or an overreaction?

Total over reaction in my opinion. It was a private joke between a father and a daughter which could have been very quickly cleared up if the cabin crew had kept their heads.

    Loretto Abbey Rathfarnham

Does anyone know anything about this complex? I went for a walk around there with a friend yesterday and while we were both impressed by the lake and the gardens, we were put off by the balconies full of rubbish, washing hanging out etc. I live in an apartment block and that just wouldn't be...

Asking kids to go and play on the Green

Asking kids to go and play on the Green

True. I just feel that maybe I'm now going to be perceived as the big bad wolf by kids whose parents just don't seem to understand how annoying it is to have a gang of other people's kids constantly screaming outside your home on sunny evenings, forcing you to close your windows etc.

Asking kids to go and play on the Green

I asked a couple of the children where they lived as this was the second time in about five minutes I'd had to go out to them and said I'd speak with their parents if it happened again. I've heard, via a neighbour, that one of the children went home crying about that and their dad is very...

Asking kids to go and play on the Green

I live in an apartment and last night at ten o'clock I had a gang of kids out shouting and playing really loudly immediately below my apartment windows. There is a big green a few yards away so I asked them to go and play there as it was getting late and they were making a lot of noise. They...

    An Uachtarain's visit to Britain

The Queen's was well written, but delivered quite flatly I thought. Michael D's was lighter on content, but I think he delivered it with (a bit) more energy. I'm sure neither he nor the Queen wrote the scripts themselves anyway. They may have had input but I think Michael D has a couple of...

    An Uachtarain's visit to Britain

But they're no longer an oppressive presence in Ireland. They're basically the country next door with whom we have (and need) strong economic links. We also share a huge amount culturally and there is an enormous Irish community in Great Britain. It really is time to formally bury the past and...

    An Uachtarain's visit to Britain

It's not really about him though. The visit itself is hugely symbolic and another step forward in getting over the past and just moving on. There are still pockets of Irish society (including some Irish living in Britain) constantly refusing to let old resentments and grudges go, and acting as...

An Open Letter from Dylan Farrow to Woody Allen

Thanks Bronte. It's always good to see both sides of a story where unproven accusations have been made.

    RTE Programme on surrogacy.

True, but a 'right' to have a child shouldn't supercede all other considerations. In this situation the couple's feeling that they were entitled to have a baby together seemed to override any considerations about exploiting vulnerable women, aborting the third foetus, and bringing the children...

    Consultants should rebrand themselves

I'm a bit cynical about consultants myself. Some of them are very good, expert at what they do and provide a great service. But a lot of them seem to be just 'talk the talk' chancers who charge enormous sums of money to tell senior managers things that staff would have told them for free. Also...

    RTE Programme on surrogacy.

I was particularly disturbed about the implanting of several embryos as 'insurance' with the agreement that any more than two foetus will be aborted (I can't remember the exact term they used). That chilled me.

More bonuses for public servants-better management needed first

I agree. These kind of things can become very subjective. A 'merit award' scheme was introduced into the civil service during the economic boom and it was a disaster - very divisive, and on many occasions overlooked the people working quietly and effectively in the background while favouring the...

Stupid legal case: Eddie Rockets, child gets finger caught in retro sugar dispenser.

Exactly. I can't stand it when parents in restaurants let their kids play with the sugar bowl, salt and pepper shakers etc. They're not toys and other customers have to use them.

Should people with children have preference for time off over Christmas

I used to be very flexible years ago so that people who lived down the country would not have to come back to Dublin between Christmas and New Year to sit in a cold flat miles away from their family. I never really minded, but it was annoying when some people would come back after Christmas and...

Should people with children have preference for time off over Christmas

This used to be a bone of contention in previous places I have worked. It never comes up as an issue in my current workplace despite several staff having young children. Personally I think everyone's life outside of work should be treated with respect and time off over Christmas should be...
