Finance Ireland announces substantial rate increases

Our valuation report was submitted to FI last week as part of a switch so I'm hoping we'll be OK. Any idea how long it takes PTSB to send deeds to your solicitor?

Should I switch from a tracker mortgage to fixed rate mortgage?

Thanks for confirming what I thought regarding giving up the tracker. I guess I presumed it was a good idea to let inflation eat away at the mortgage over a longer time frame and it would allow me to focus on maximizing pension contributions at 40% rate.

Should I switch from a tracker mortgage to fixed rate mortgage?

I currently have a split rate mortgage on my home with PTSB. There is about 20 years remaining in the term. My LTV is < 60%. The rates are as follows: e129k is on a tracker at ECB+2.25% e80k is at 3.3% Given how attractive long term fixed rate mortgages are I'm very tempted to switch to...

Proof you're living in the property prior to sale.

That is a condition of some of the Tracker Movers. I know it was with PTSB. You will probably be asked to present utility bills that show you're living in the property when you make the formal application.

Effect of Negative Bond Rates on Pension Fund

As an example of what I mean - if a fund bought the German 5 yr bond today, it's yield is -0.01%. Doesn't this mean that the fund would have to not only pay for the bond but also a -0.01% interest rate to hold that bond? I would see this as negative for a fund regardless of what way bond prices...

Effect of Negative Bond Rates on Pension Fund

Thank you for responding Sarenco. I do understand that falling yields are good for the long bond fund however I was wondering what would happen if the fund was buying bonds that were yielding negative rates. Leaving aside bond prices going up/down wouldn't the fund be losing money by just...

Will mortgage holders be liable for any tax on the amount which is contributed by bank? I'm wondering if this is being treated as a capital gain?

Key Post What should the lender pay you for surrendering a tracker?

Am I right in thinking that people with trackers who are renting out their homes will do well out of this as long as they get a fair discount for surrendering their trackers? The capital portion of their mortgage payment would be reduced while the interest portion is increased. This means that...

Offsetting Capital Gains (Shares) and Losses (Investment Property)

If someone made a capital loss from the sale of an investment property, can they use this loss to reduce the amount of tax payable for a capital gain from the sale of shares? Many Thanks
