Need some info re: affordable housing

I am thinking of applying for affordable housing. I work and am a single parent. Am I restricted as to what type of home I can get? As in number of rooms/value/location? I don't want to end up buying a 2 bed place and then have to sell in a few years if I need more space, if I buy it will be...

    Ex buying me out...good deal?

As I said in my OP, I want to take this deal but I also want to make sure it does exactly what it says on the tin. He's said I won't be left out of pocket. truthfully, I don't believe him as it wouldn't be the first time he's said one thing and a week later maintained he said something else. I...

    Ex buying me out...good deal?

I guess I'm just too suspicious. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him and I don't understand what he gets out of this other than saddled with more debt. He has huge resentment about "paying a mortgage" for me but he also has no intention of staying in the house and will move as soon as he...

    Ex buying me out...good deal?

I don't know if any have sold. There are very few detached houses in the estate but some of the semis have sold. Ex has the house on the market for 330k and will not reduce asking price. I spoke to the EA who said 260k was more realistic and that was a year ago so I'm guessing it's less again...

    Ex buying me out...good deal?

A smaller house (sq footage) but same type and number of rooms, new and finished, in the same estate is up for asking price of €275k so I don't think I'm being too extreme in my guesstimates. When we finished the house it cost us 300k in total and was valued at over 340k at the time.

    Ex buying me out...good deal?

He says he needs the letter before the lender will consider him taking over the mortgage. As in, he needs it as part of his application. But will I be shooting myself in the foot if I write it? If he doesn't get approval will there be comeback on it?

    Ex buying me out...good deal?

brief summary...my ex partner and I bought a house in 2005 for 280k. We got a joint loan of 20k to furnish and finish the house (builders finish), we had a deposit of 20k and a mortgage of 260k. I wasn't working at the time so the house was put in his name alone as was the mortgage of €260k. In...

    Motor Little insurance confusion.

This has become more common in the last couple of years. It has happened a few times. Basically the person driving was named on the policy but was also covered under their own policy. Their own policy covered the cost of the third party damage and the own damage was paid under the crashed...

    Motor Car Insurance Cover- Help!

No, she specifically said she is the main user of both vehicles. A lot of companies exclude a spouses car on DOC. Of course OP would have to check this with her insurer. But I'm betting that if she told them that she drives the car to work and home every day they would tell her she won't be...

    Motor Car Insurance Cover- Help!

If your husband is the owner of the smaller car, he needs to insure it. If you are the main user of both cars, you need to transfer ownership into your name and insure both cars in your name (some companies will allow you to insure a car your spouse owns but most won't). You won't be able to...

Does anyone know how long the waiting time for FIS review is?

Hi all, I reapplied for FIS back in June, sent in the forms etc. My payment stopped the last week in June. Last year it was mid-August before the payments were reinstated. Does anyone know are the waiting times any longer this year or would it be roughly the same? Thanks

    Home Insurance Premium Increase

A lot of companies have increased their excess in the last year. Most who had a standard excess of €120 ish have increased it to €250. The excess for water damage has increased with a lot of companies too.

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

Thanks very much. Yesterday was just a bad day. I'm usually fine 99% of the time but sometimes it all just catches up on you and you can't catch your breath. I usually have a rant or a cry and I'm fine again for another while. I'm sorry to hear you were in the same position but I hope everything...

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

OK, well all I really know is that he was interested in a certain sport. I've tried those kind of clubs but to no avail. I know the places he worked from 2001 to 2003. I know where he went to college for the same years. I know where he went to work after he left the place we were in college...

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

I have no intention of canvassing all the bars in inner city dublin looking for a man I haven't seen in 8 years. I understand where you are coming from but I would feel quite degraded by that, wandering around looking for my childs daddy. I did the phone number thing when my daughter was born...

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

Lol. I agree. Bear in mind this all happened almost 8 years ago now. It was May 02 when I fell pregnant. I was angry for a while after but at the end of the day, I've my daughter. He has nothing. And while raising her alone is hard financially, I wouldn't swap her for the euro millions. :D

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

I don't know them. We were both in college together and working together but from different parts of the country. I know the area where he is from but it's a Dublin area so the scope is vast. He doesn't want to be found. I have the same phone number, am on facebook with a profile pic of me...

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

    - I agree but my employers aren't the most flexible people in the world. But its a secure job which is scarce these days so I amn't going to push it. -ESB is about 50 per month and fuel costs(central heating including the cold spell we had) work out at about €100 per month. I prefer to...

Seem to be in a downward spiral.....

No I never have. I haven't seen him since I was a few months pregnant. He doesn't want to be found. I have life insurance for the mortgage only which is included in the mortgage payment/attached to it, so my ex is paying that although I'm not sure he knows that. I won't mention it lol. In the...
