We have ceramic floor tiles on our hallway floor and are thinking of putting down a wooden floor here instead - either solid or semi-solid.

Does anyone know if we have to remove the tiles or can we lay the wood on to the tiles. The tiles are level.

You can lay it on the tiles. A layer of foam or similar will be required under your wooden floor of course, but it would anyway.

Only possible problem is a differance in levels for door saddles etc. you may need to put in a floor trim or pack door saddle.

you'd be surprised at how easy it is to take tiles up, you can get a tile remover which looks like a giant scraper with a handle about the size of a mop..

it can be done but I would take them up....the floor will be a lot higher for a start if you leave them

Once the first tile comes up, it should be straight forward from there....only delay might be getting some of the adhesive up
