Home Will insurance co pay me or builder?

I have a small claim - about €750 - due to a leak in a buy to let property I own. I would like to get the builder to deal with it quickly and just pay himself on completion. If I do this and the insurance pay out will the check be made payable to me or the builder directly?
 
we also recently made a claim for a leak in our house and our insurer sent a cheque directly to us
 
Usually the company will pay an intial amount to you & hold the balance (retention) back until the job is completed & VAT receipts are submitted, but it depends on the insurer. Is €750 net of a policy excess? Did the company make you aware that the claim will impact on your renewal premium next year and make shopping around a lot harder?
