Where to exchange 5k dollars to euros

I have about 5k worth of US Dollars (cash) which I want to change into euros.

Who gives the best exchange rate in Dublin?

Banks seem to charge high commission rates. Usually airport exchange bureaux might have no commission but their rates are very poor.

I see some credit unions have good rates but you have to be a member and on that ground, I would be out.

One possibility seems to be an FX company, but as I don't have any permanent address at the moment, that seems to be out. Again, I am not sure if they do Ireland to Ireland transfers.

Is there anywhere that I have missed?

Any opinions welcome.

Banks used not to (most of the time I think) charge if you lodged the money straight into your account, i.e. you bring them dollars and they lodge the equivalent amount in euro into your account. Have you asked at bank you have an account at?

Thanks, Janet
I haven't asked because I don't have a bank account, yet. Will be returning from abroad on Friday and I'm not sure yet where I'm going to live. It looks as though the Ulster bank seem the best option as far as banks go.

Which bank has the best rates - I can't find a comparison of rates on the internet.
