What happens to existing file if I change solicitor?

Despite current market downturn I am about to put my current home on the market with a view to down sizing to a smaller property.

The solicitor I have used in the pass, I have found to be expensive and not always as efficient as I would expect.

However, he dealt with the purchase of my existing property, so if I transfer to a new solicitor will all relevant papers pertaining to the original purchase be transferred to a newly appointed solicitor? Is this something a new solicitor would do automatically?

Your title deeds will be with the financial institution or should be unless you used one of a couple of "prominent" solicitors.

All you need to do is go to the new solicitor and he or she will take up your title deeds from the lending institution directly. No need to bother your previous solicitor at all.
