What exactly does it mean when a co. is in administration?

It means that the company has temporary protection from its creditors while the administrator tries to put together a rescue package. It gives the company a breathing space and is only used where a company has a realistic chance of surviving. It's supervised by the courts and if there is not a reasonable probability of a successful long term company coming out of it, the courts will replace the examiner with a liquidator.

So administration is the same as examinership? I always thought that administration was a stage on the way to liquidation whereas examinership might not be?
