Metronomy

Saw this band on the tele during Glastonbury and thought they were quite
good. Sort of electronic music...to me somewhere like Daft Punk with some Cure and Depeche Mode thrown in too (only my opinion though!)

I notice Dave Fanning and Paul McLoone playing them recently. 3 of their recent singles are here and worth a listen to.

Anyway, I think they're pretty catchy and bit different.

Any other decent bands/songs out there you're listening to?

Firefly.

Sorry, do you mean new stuff? :) If so, sorry I don't see much of interest to me at the moment. I go with some old classics at the moment

They're quite good Firefly. reminds me a bit of "The Beloved". One of my favourite bands.

I also heard a trad. band (with a modern twist) Mutefish playing in Temple Bar and bought the CD. They are great.

And have a look at the wee girl dancing in this one, brilliant. Make you proud to be Irish.

I've watched mutefish a couple of times on Grafton St and I have to say they are incredibly impressive. Just listened to Metronomy and they're not really my thing to be honest.

I don't listen to alot of new music so had to look at itunes for my most recent downloads. They were Sam Cooke, Paolo Nutini, Joni Mitchell and Lisa Hannigan. I also recently downloaded Imelda May and whilst I didnt think I'd like her, again it's quite impressive.

Listening to Bruce , Jackson Browne , Gary U S Bonds & Warren Zevon - it still is the 80's - right ? Or maybe I'm getting a little confused in my old age !

Personnally I find a lot of new bands are not that original, I keep hearing sounds of Bruce, the Clash, the Jam etc in a lot of their music. Maybe it's an age thing

I like the John Kelly ensemble in the afternoon on Lyric. He doesn't just play classical but also plays a lot of more obscure artists that you wouldn't hear elsewhere. Guys like Jonan Johannson from Iceland for example or Abdullah Ibrahim, a South African soul/jazz type

As a long long time fan of PJ Harvey I was thrilled she won the Mercury Prize and have been listening to a lot of her back catalogue, though it's been a fairly constant for me for the last 20 years.

I would suggest people check out the new Gomez album, have like everything they have done and are one of the most underrated bands in my opinion

plus an oldie from them

Also enjoying Eddie Vedder's solo album, considering I never liked Pearl Jam

You can't beat a bit of The Pixies for blowing away cobwebs

I didn't specially like Pearl Jam in the nineties, but that one, I like.

I watched Donnie Darko yesterday, so I also had the following in my playlist:

and then, Alice in chain's unplugged. Gotta love the mistake:

At the moment old classics by Prefab Sprout and Acoustic Alchemy before the great Nick Webb left this planet getting the band to worsen with every new album... :(

I'm listening to a bootleg download of the Pogues first ever gig in Ireland - McGonagles Nite Club in March 85. I was there.

I was 12 so I wasn't. :D

I'm listening to Springsteen's "The Ballad of Tom Joad".
haven't listened to it for a while and it's a really great album. The solo concert he did in Dublin promoting it was the best gig I was ever at.
