Weird smell in bedroom

Thanks again for all your replies. The problem has finally been identified and hopefully solved. Behind the bedroom closet there is a drain pipe running from the downstairs bathroom all the way up to the attic. It is a pipe not for water, it is just air. As the builder was a bit of a cow boy in several ways, he messed it up by putting together two pipes as he didn't have one long enough. The point were the two pipes were joined, was not properly sealed and also up in the attic there was not a proper seal to the outside. So the plumber fixed both of these things and hopefully it will work. Of course when the plumber came to do the work the smell was gone but by smelling where the two pipes were badly joint I could tell that THAT was the smell. The reason why the smell is only there in November/December is apparently due to the atmospheric pressure, tides and things like that. So it really had nothing to do with the heating or the boiler. Now, as the smell was gone regardless of the job done by the plumber, we'll have to wait possibly until next November to find out if the fix done is final. The plumber in fact warned me that if the problem is down at the downstairs toilet level then the fix will not be enough. Fingers crossed!
