VW service light

I was just wondering if there was a way to re-set the service interval light (countdown timer) in a 04 vw passat tdi, without bringing it to a VAG dealer?
A buddy was able to use a combination of the reset switch located under the wiper stalk, the ignition and the clock stalk (keep to the left) on a '03 Skoda Suprerb, which worked. No matter what combination that I tried, I could not re-set the service interval timer.
Any help greatly appricated !
