Unscrupulous relative is managing illiterate persons bank account, what can be done?

I know of a case where a person is holding down a job but cannot read or write.

This is not a problem as they can do job without reading or writing. The problem is that a relation has got his name on to this persons bank account, and because they cannot read bank statements,they do not know this is the case.

What can be done to stop this relation of this person from taking all his money from him?
 
The person was told this, but will not believe this guys name is on his account because he cannot read the names on his bank statement. His family do not know how this underhand relative got his name on the account,and how to go about removing it.
 
If you have told the person and he doesnt wish to believe it I dont really see what else you can do. Maybe ask him to phone the bank to clarify who's name is on the account?

It seems rather extraordinary that someone managed to get their name onto a bank account, that you happen to know about it, and that the person whose account it is doesnt believe it. Would you agree it sounds a bit far fetched?

Why not tell the person to ask someone unrelated to read his bank statement to him? Unless you yourself have seen the bank statements then its possible that you have taken the situation up incorrectly. Would you normally be privy to this persons financial paperwork?
 
Surely the illiterate account holder must have signed a form to add the unscrupulous one! What did the original a/c holder offer as a specimen signature when opening it?
If the facts as stated are correct this might be worth reporting to the Gardai as there is something decidely odd here.

There must be some sort of trust or friendship there between the 2 relatives that pre dates your interest in this man's bank account.
Maybe you are as unscrupulous as your other relative. ?
 
There is something funny about this story. Illiteracy is not a binary state - very, very few people are completely illiterate, to the extent that they couldn't read their own name or someone else's name.
