Is this legal? I want to change from 02 to vodaphone but friend tells me i have to buy a new phone or get it "unlocked" how much does this cost and how do i do it (Dublin)
 
Just GOOGLE 'unlocking phones in Dublin' and you'll get all the info - including free codes for DIY.
 
Depends on the brand and model of phone but most unlock solutions are available on the web or in various shops around town.
 
Call O2 and request the unlock codes. They are legally bound to provide them. Usually they will make no more fuss then telling you how much better their service is.

That's what I did when I upgraded my last phone. O2 gave me the code without any questions. Managed to sell the unlocked phone on eBay for nearly the same cost of the upgrade to my new phone :)
